Home: the place to be.

A home with soul can feel like a warm hug, something I’m sure we all could do with more of right now. So with all of us spending much more time at home, have you taken the time to think about how your home makes you feel? Is it working well for you and your family right now, or could it do with a few modifications?

Working from home, home schooling and just generally being home around the clock means that we are now expecting more from our domestic environments than ever before. Renovating or redecorating may not be on the agenda or in the budget right now, but it’s probably a good time to start doing some research and setting some priorities.

Being home far more will also inevitably mean we will all be faced with larger than usual utility bills. Maintaining warmth in your house on colder days needs to be a priority if you don’t want to be spending a fortune on heating costs. Simple things like checking for draughts and covering your windows with appropriate window treatments will make a huge difference.

Close fitting blinds and curtains provide an effective barrier against heat loss - uncovered glass can result in a large percentage of your warm air heading straight out the window. Around 30% of heat loss in Winter is through your home’s windows.

Dress your windows with care: well chosen drapes or blinds will frame (or mask) your outlook, filter the light and create an atmosphere, as well as keeping your home warmer. Your window coverings have an important role to play and really do work hard.

Stick with a neutral palette - even if you are a colour lover, having neutral toned blinds will allow your decor to shine - art and accessories that reflect your personality - rather than trying to make a statement with your window coverings.

There’s also never been a better time to support Australian manufacturers and local businesses, so when you are looking for products, try to buy Australian made.
